Lead Teaching Artists


Location: Liberty City, Overtown, North Miami, Miami Gardens, South Broward
Type: Part-Time, Contract
Hours: 10-20 hours per week (between 8:30AM - 11AM, and 3PM - 5PM)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Teaching Artist to play a pivotal role in supporting our team of teaching artists. The Lead Teaching Artist will have a strong background in music education and extensive experience working with preschool and early elementary-aged groups. In addition to teaching responsibilities, this role encompasses administrative duties focused on ensuring the effective implementation of our curriculum. The Lead Teaching Artist will observe, coach, and collaborate with fellow teaching artists, organize professional development activities, and work closely with the program administrator to meet program needs and goals. 

Tasks & Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging music education lessons to preschool and early learning center students.

- Use the Colorful Violin method to make music relatable through connections with literacy, shapes and colors.
- Create a positive and nurturing learning environment that encourages participation and creativity.

- Adapt lessons to meet the needs and interests of diverse learners.

- Collaborate with school staff to integrate music lessons into the curriculum.

- Observe and provide constructive feedback to fellow teaching artists to enhance their teaching effectiveness. 

- Collaborate with the program administrator to ensure curriculum alignment and program goals. 

- Organize and facilitate professional development sessions for teaching artists. 

- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, conferences and professional development training sessions.

- Serve as the main contact for program sites, ensuring effective communication and coordination. 

- Manage teaching artists’ schedules, including assigning classes and overseeing coverage for absences. 

- Assist in program planning, scheduling, and curriculum development.

Preferred Qualifications 

- Strong background in music, with proficiency in one or more musical instruments. 

- Experience as an educator, particularly with preschool and early elementary-age groups. 

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

- Ability to provide constructive feedback and mentor fellow teaching artists. 

- Enthusiasm and commitment to fostering a love of music in young learners. 

Working Conditions

- Reliable transportation for on-site teaching assignments is required. 

- Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting. 

- CPR, First Aid, and 40-hour certification are strongly encouraged, but not required. 

- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
