“I believe that we are all connected through music and that every child has been blessed with an internal rhythm and creativity that is unique to their personality and connects them to others. It is our responsibility as educators to create a nurturing environment that helps guide and cultivate the expression of their inner rhythm by providing a high-quality, fun, and engaging experience with all types of musical forms. I believe that music education can be both structured and spontaneous, guided and free, colorful, emotional, and transformational—all at the same time.”

Rhythm Sticks – An Easy Way to Follow the Beat

September 09, 20181 min read

Portia Dunkley, Teeny Violini teaches students about rhythm sticks.

The sticks are tapped together to make sounds and they have been known to help develop:

· Fine motor development and hand-eye coordination

· Language development and listening skills

· Rhythm, beat and tempo

· Encourage creative thinking and problem solving

· Early brain development

· Helps with directionality (up, down, forwards, backwards, etc.)

At Teeny Violini, rhythm sticks are an important part of our curriculum, because not only does it help keep our children engaged but, it is one step closer to developing the listening ear and coordination necessary for playing the violin.
